Primal Stride Challenge

Wow it has been 9 days since I checked in, time certainly flies, even if you are not having fun.  The move is complete, although there are still many boxes and things to go through and find a new home.  It is amazing how much stuff a person accumulates over time.  Purging through a lot of personal belongings certainly has given me a new perspective on not just material items but on my personal accomplishments and lack of as well.

Physically, the move has been a challenge.  It amazed me how much I could and couldn’t do through out the move.  I did manage to make some pretty good choices during the 2 weeks of the move and we only ate out twice.  The night all the big stuff was moved we did buy pizza for everyone, but I limited myself to 2 slices.  After working hard all day that seemed to be enough with the other good food I had eaten through out the day.  Then one day as we were moving all the little stuff and I had to work, we all decided Taco Bell would make a better dinner.  Oh what a mistake that was, my old habit of ordering a grilled stuff burrito and a bean and cheese burrito add sour cream set in.  After eating all that stuff cause I am not sure it really is food, I was sick for about 18 hours.

It is amazing how quickly one’s body can figure out what it wants and does not want.  Water is becoming more and more my beverage of choice. Not to say the diet coke is gone from my diet, but it is more of a treat than a staple of life now.

During the move my scale went kaapootz and so I have no idea what my weight is, but I can tell you in the last 3 weeks there has been a significant loss in inches.  Today, the dress slacks that at Christmas were too tight are falling off of me.  I really want to go buy a scale – but think if I just hang on a little bit more I will be pleased with the results.

I have not managed to keep up with the Primal Stride over the last 2 weeks with the move, but do plan to revisit and put myself back into the challenge mode.

Moving, Snow and Choices

December 31, 2009

Of course the snow would wait until we start moving.  The weather is making it very easy for me to make decision and choices to get healthy.  Shoveling show, moving furniture, boxes and so on is making me find muscles I never knew I had, or forgot I had them.

Today is day 3 of moving with at least another week to go, and again it is snowing.  At least 5 new inches need to be cleared from walk ways, driveways and so on before we start.  Getting the snow out of the back of the truck is one of my least favorite things, climbing up there and getting down makes me realize just how fat and out of shape I am.

A day or two ago Seth Simonds who writes Primal Stride offered a Five at Five Challenge, I think it would be fun to take this challenge, and participate with others making healthier choices.  I am not sure I can commit to the first challenge, due to moving and so on.  Walking at 5 a.m. is not really safe in my area due to weather conditions. I am going to do my best to take the challenge, get up at 5 a.m. and walk sometime around 7 when the temps and daylight make this more favorable.  I am not sure I can complete the just over 3 miles, but will do my best.

Thinking I could also do walk away the pounds for 3 miles in my house – if I can get the family room set up in time which may be impossible with the snow we are seeing today.

We do not have to be alone as we make healthier choices, I have convinced my husband to walk with me and depending on the next challenge I may find he will again participate.  Regardless, I will not feel like I am alone in the tasks as I have the Primal Stride to follow.

Signing off for now, boxes to pack, snow to Shovel – Today is New Year’s Eve – be safe, be healthy and see you next year!

Happy New Year!
